NHSTA investigating yet another Toyota problem
The Detroit News is reporting that 44,000 Toyota Highlander hybrid's are being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over concerns that their engines can stall and fail to restart.
The investigation involves 2008 model year Toyota Highlander hybrid SUV's. The NHSTA received 32 complaints. This isn't the first time in the recent past that Toyota has had stalling problems; last August Toyota recalled 1.3 million 2005 - 2008 Corolla's and Matrix's for stalled engines.
Toyota continues to struggle to rebuild it's reputation for quality after a spate of recall problems, beginning with the sudden acceleration issues that arose a couple of years ago. Over the past two years Toyota has had more recalls than any other automaker.
